Atorise apologises over comment about C&S after backlash

Popular gospel artiste, Evangelist Lanre Teriba, otherwise known as Atorise has apologised to members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church over his comment about the church.

This followed his claim in a viral video that he left the C&S church twenty years ago because no one in the fold valued his talent as an upcoming gospel artiste.

Atorise, who was seen delivering a sermon in the video said the elders in the church always disrespected him whenever he was asked to minister despite having recorded an album.

“When I was leaving, I told them that by the time they invite me again to their church, they would pay for my service. And by the time I was invited back to minister in the church, I collected 5 million naira,” he added.

His submission, however, generated reactions from social media users who expressed their reservations.

While some recalled how the C&S church contributed to the growth of his career, others said it was needless for him to make comparisons about churches to make a point.

In his apology through a voice note now in circulation, Atorise said his message was misunderstood, adding that he did not condemn the C&S church.

He said, “I was referring to my personal church and not the whole C&S. I am only saying it to correct them and not for self-exaltation. Most of the bookings I have this year are in the C&S church.”

“All the people I have offended should kindly forgive me. I am not feeling too big about myself because any stream that forgets its source will dry up. The C&S church is my source.

“I was born into the church. I am still a bonafide member. It was the headquarters of my branch that gave me the 5 million naira I talked about. I didn’t say the whole C&S church paid for it. Help me spread my voice note the same way you spread my video. I am a son of Orimolade and I say it wholeheartedly.”
