Children’s Day Special: “Dada”…Aren’t they unique with their dreadlocks?

From The Publisher’s Desk

In the spirit of children’s day celebration, we deem it pertinent to make a brief for our own with those natural, beautiful and unique locked hair. They are mostly referred to as nazarene and also known as “Dada” in Yoruba parlance, and some people stress it by calling them, “Dàda àwùru yale yà gi oko”, in what passes for their own kind of panegyric.

Much as they cut across every culture and tribe, there have been inquisitions as to why their kind is so peculiar to the white garment churches. And in actual fact, almost every Seraph household has them, even if it’s just by an extended family. You may as well be surprised that such inquisition once sparked a debate on a popular news website in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, there is a general belief that their strength and overall good health are tied to their hair and it must not be handled casually.

They are also known to possess special gifts and some sort of supernatural powers. They are also considered fragile in their formative years, and for this reason, they are being taken care of, specially.

Without doubt, some of us reading this piece at some point had natural locked or matted hair, and perhaps some still have it on them.

It is worthy of note that diverse myths surround the growth of dreadlocks on children, yet, there have not been any medical proof or link as to what causes it.

But while the medical link remains shrouded in mystery, we have one common link we can always identify with as Seraphs, and that is the founder of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase, who also had natural locked hair. Besides, his own special kind of being is such that personifies the attributes of a typical Dada, thus his evangelical mission and spiritual prowess here on earth.

This also brings to fore, the story of Samson in the bible whom the angel of the lord described as special, and that from his birth he was to be dedicated to God as a nazarite for his entire life. He was not to consume any wine or other grape byproduct, and no razor was to ever touch his hair. There is no gainsaying the fact that Jesus Christ was a nazerene, too.

While some of them have rare intelligence, others possess physical strength like that of Samson.

It is widely believed as well that Dada does not go broke. They are loved by almost everyone whom they come in contact with. Often times, they go out empty handed and return home either with cash or gifts. As a Seraph, you can relate also why Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase does not go broke during his lifetime.

Their eventual haircut is not just like every other person’s own, it comes with its own special considerations conducted by a priest.

The list of their inherent features is indeed endless. But, truly, they remain a very unique and special kind of being.
