The annual Agelu pilgrimage by subscribers to the Agbojesu conference and other interested members of the C&S fold has been cancelled for this year.

The spokesperson for the Agbojesu conference, Sup. Apostle Gideon Oluwale confirmed this to Acts of Seraphs during a phone interview and backed the decision up with a video announcement by the Spiritual Head of the C&S Agbo Jesu Conference Worldwide, His Eminence Samuel Olusegun Ajayi Akintobi, Arojibikah II, flanked by top Elders of Agbojesu.

He said the decision was not unconnected to the directives of the government on social gathering due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As it stands, the number of recorded cases of the disease in Nigeria has shown no sign of abatement, as it keeps soaring by the day.

The spiritual head in the video already in circulation on social media therefore says the government has the interest of the masses at heart to have halted any form of social gathering in the meantime.

He also declared that no one should attempt coming to the mountain this year, noting that the cancelation was to comply with the position of the holy scriptures on the need to respect the authorities.

This will be the first time since 1933 when the founder of Agbojesu conference, Late Alfred Akintobi Ajayi, started the annual pilgrimage.

Findings by this platform revealed that the late founder started climbing the mountain in company of two other clerics, as led by the Holy Spirit. Signs and wonders that abound thereafter saw to the subsequent increase of attendees.

Oke Agelu (Agelu Mountain) is stretched over three kilometres on the Iseyin-Ibadan highway in Ado-Awaye, a community near Iseyin in Oyo State.

The annual pilgrimage which holds July 24 through July 27 had since attracted multitude of attendees from across the world.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, USA/Canada C&S Agbo Jesu Sub-Conference, Senior Superintendent Apostle Francis Ekundayo Okhiria, in a separate chat with this platform, says plans are underway to explore local media outfit to ensure that the information gets to everyone. He said the spiritual head would, on this note, visit radio stations from time to time.

When asked what measures would be put in place to make the restriction effective as there could be some attendees who may likely flout the order apparently due to their affinity with the annual pilgrimage, Okiria says the conference had resolved to mount security operatives at the two entry points that lead to Agelu Jerusalem which are: Awaye and Oshogun.

He also noted that the religious body led by the spiritual head would formally notify local authorities including Oyo state government of the cancelation.

Acts of Seraphs understands that there is a standing covenant that Agelu pilgrimage must not cease to hold, annually.

Okhiria, while reacting to this, clarified that the cancelation does not affect the annual spiritual exercise but only a handful of elders numbering about 15 to 20 would climb the mountain just to mark this year’s edition.

He added that the idea of the cancelation was basically not to contravene the social distancing rule of the government which would be hard to observe should the pilgrimage holds.

“Anyone who has been to Agelu before knows there is no way we can maintain social distancing. We are talking of a place where thousands of people would be in attendance. So this year passes for a low key kind of exercise. Though, only a few elders like 15 or 20 would gather to pray on the mountain. Even the Agbo Jesu sub conference in US and Canada due to hold last week was cancelled. We had to to adopt the online platform to mark it this year”, he said.

The spiritual head, in the video, stated that prayers would be offered to end the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world.
