A member of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Yetunde Aina, has been awarded the Police Sportsman of the Year at the maiden edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendation ceremony held on Monday in Abuja.
Seraph Aina also known as Iron Abbey was awarded alongside 15 other outstanding police officers based on the recommendations of the Nigeria Police Force Awards Committee headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Bala Ciroma.
Guests present at the event include President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun; the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lit-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja; among others.
The maiden edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony was held to appreciate exemplary police officers.
Speaking at the event, Egbetokun noted that the award has demonstrated the meritorious but guiding principles that should shape the daily actions and decisions of police officers.
Acts Of Seraphs reported that Aina was the first African female to win the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) International Super Bantamweight title belt at City Coast Centre in Portslade, East Sussex, London.
This followed her victory at the International Boxing Championship bout against United Kingdom’s Laura Pain in 2022.
The female Seraph who serves in the Lagos State Police Command was celebrated and given a special promotion on the order of the then Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba.
The former police boss who hosted Aina at the Force Headquarters said she had joined the long list of police officers who had distinguished themselves in the area of sports development in the country and across the globe.
She was thereafter promoted to the next rank of Corporal, while she also earned a monetary reward.
