The induction ceremony of the new executives of C&S Unification Church of Nigeria, Lagos state chapter, has come and gone, but a session of the programme whereby some elderly Seraphs were given awards for their meritorious service may not be forgotten, anytime soon.
The new chairman, Apostle Segun Adio while moderating the part of the programme, said the award was a brainchild of the immediate past administration to reward deserving members in the chapter.
Meanwhile, the high point of this year’s session was when a barely 90-year-old Snr. Rev. Apostolic Mother Iyabode Pedro stepped out to receive her award. Although, the chairman had expected a representative to show up on her behalf, the elderly woman’s surprise appearance, however caused a rush of emotions to sweep through the auditorium.
Mama Unification or “Mama Unifica”, as she is fondly called, walked slowly towards the point where she received her award with the assistance of some excited members of the Good Women band who were gathered around her.
Her unexpected presence and the brief remarks the chairman made about her before she was called upon, would also make some members and guests attempt to catch a sight of her.
Some of the elders on the alter who had seen Mama Pedro in a long time also took turns to greet her, including Special Apostle (Dr) O.O Showande who prayed for her.
A retired banker and a member of Praying Band, Mama Pedro was a treasurer for many years in the state chapter. According to the chairman, no form of misappropriation was recorded during her time, while the finance of the chapter also became very robust.
Memories came flooding back when other award recipients were called upon, in what got almost everyone in the auditorium to speak glowingly about their dedication and active years of service in the chapter.
These include Prophetess Elizabeth Bello of Mount Sinai; Reverend Apostolic Mother Esther Titilola of Mt. Horeb C&S church International; a former chairman of the state chapter, Snr. Supt. Apostle Segun Amodu (represented), immediate past chairman, Snr. Supt. Apo J. O Adagba, including Apo. Mother Bose Oshinowo who was recognised for her support to the chapter.
