Glorious Exit: Mama Adigun, The “Iya Ijo General” of Ona Iwa Mimo whose life reflects the biblical story of Hannah

….Her Biography
……Funeral rites begin May 10

The afterlife is considered to be a realm beyond us, a threshold and the company of celestials. A thin clue that however appeals to our reasoning is that, it is a place of eternal rest.

While losing someone special is hard, the family of General Mother (Dr) Funmilayo Aderemi Adigun takes solace in this regard; an assurance that their mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother has found rest from all of life’s tribulations.

As a show of respect and reverence for the deceased, there are a few things worth to note from some of her life episodes.

Her life mirrors the agonies of Hannah in the bible, one who had a bit of a challenge, as she was unable to conceive and was constantly looking unto God for the fruit of the womb. A vibrant song minister from the The Apostolic Church background, fate took its toll on Mama at a point in her life, as she decided to join the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.

What sealed Mama’s life changing decision was her encounter with the founder of Ogo Oluwa C&S, His Grace Baba Aladura J. I Ogunyooye (Atunbi Jesu) with whom she shared some family ties.

She soon became a member of the fold, and was fully devoted and diligent. As everything is always for a reason, Baba prayed for her and that became the turning point in her life. One who struggled to birth at all, eventually produced Seven, starting with her own ‘Samuel’ in person of Ayodele Adigun, which also include a set of twins. Also of significance like it was in the case of Hannah, Mama’s children grew up in the way of the Lord. The said male identical twins are currently staunch members of the C&S church. While Senior Evangelist Taiwo Adigun is the Music Director C&S Saratoga Ave, Brooklyn New York, USA, his twin brother, Kehinde is an active member of C&S Oke Ayo Headquarters.

A member of C&S Ona Iwa Mimo, the miracle explains why she vowed never to leave the fold; a promise she indeed kept till she breathed her last. A committed and energetic lover of God, one with the reputation for giving, Mama was a born philanthropist, carefully serving the Lord with all she had. Her meritorious service in the Lord’s vineyard got her rising up the ranks, having served many branches as “Iya Ijo”, (a specially reserved position for older women in the C&S fold). She would later emerge as the “Iya Ijo General”, for the entire C&S Oke Ayo Ona Iwa Mimo. The title also became her sobriquet till her passing.

Pastor Samuel Ogunyooye of GOGCS church, whose father ministered to Mama, bore witness to her selflessness and persistency in serving the Lord even during her trying times. He narrated, “I remember when I was very young, I would go to church and meet Mama alone, praying and making supplications to God in her crying corner, a continuous activity she would always do. I would meet in her lips, the popular hymn, “Nigba ti danwo yi mi ka, T’idamu aye yi mu mi.”
Pastor Sam went further to reveal he was able to remind Mama of the song in one of her visits to his dad’s place, sometime before her death. According to him, It was a nostalgic moment, as the song brought back tiny pieces of old memories.

A series of events revealed Mama had a prior knowledge of her imminent transition into eternal glory. During the annual harvest of covenant for the entire branch, Mama’s contribution to the annual ark of covenant anniversary was immense. Some days after, she called Queen Captain Mariam Talabi, and after exchanging pleasantries, Mama dropped the bombshell, “I think it is time to go.” Mama was said to have gone to the hospital shortly after where she gave up the ghost.

The final moments of late general mother, Dr Funmilayo Aderemi Adigun Iya Ijo general, however lend credence to the basis of human reasoning about the afterlife revealed earlier.

Mama lived a fulfilled life and joined the saints triumphant at the ripe age of 82. The octogenarian is survived with children and grand children.

Meanwhile, her funeral rites will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, with Service of Songs at her residence in Olodi Apapa. Trinity Market Association traders and Ajeromi Ifelodun CDA members will also hold a procession at the same residence on Wednesday.

Her Lying in State will hold on Thursday at Holy Mount C&S Ona Iwa Mimo Oke Ayo Unification Church, opposite RCCG camp by 2pm. The final burial ceremony will come up on Friday by 9am at the same venue, as interment follows at her Mowe residence by 11am.
