We bring you the remaining part of the live interview we had with the legal adviser of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification church of Nigeria, Gen. Supt. Apostle Wale Taiwo, on Monday in commemoration of his 60th birthday. Recall that the interview was disrupted by network hitches. In this written version, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria bares his mind on what he plans to achieve with his office, as well as his membership of the constitution review committee of the church.
(Cont’d….)
You must have offered series of legal advisory services to the church on different cases, was there anyone you think was demanding and can’t be forgotten so soon?
Like I said, I wear two caps; one as the Legal Adviser of the Eternal Sacred Order of C & S, a constituent church in the Unification fold and that of the C & S Unification Church. I have represented both in diverse cases of interest with some even still in court.
For Eternal, I can remember when the Otubu faction wanted with collaboration with some elements in Ibadan Street and Atanda-olu Branch to take-over Atanda-olu Branch. I had to file an action at the Ikeja High Court and successfully obtained injunctive orders against them.
For Unification, I can remember the judgment obtained by a Family to take-over the Seraphims land in Maba; which was actually executed. With the grace of God, I was able to set aside the judgment and reclaim the Seraphim land. The case however is still in Court.
Do you have any relationship with younger generation of Seraph lawyers and is any of them working with you in your capacity as the legal adviser of the church?
By the Constitution of Unification, there is aside from my position as the Chief Legal Adviser, provisions for Legal Officer 1 and Legal Officer 2 for the Church.
Before I came into office, there had been no synergy i.e the three Officers working together. I have started that synergy process by organizing meetings of the three (3) Lawyers to discuss legal problems of Unification to proffer common front to tackle them.
The second phase of this reform is to organize a Conference of Seraph Lawyers to interact and find areas of common/mutual interests either at the Church level or in personal capacities and work on them. I know quite a number of them and we relate both on personal and church basis.
As to whether any of them is working with me, I say yes. I have a Senior Lawyer who has spent over 10years in my Chambers. He belongs to the C & S Movement.
I have had occasions to conduct interviews for some Seraphs Young Lawyers and found them not good enough for employment in my Chambers. I can only advise them to make sure they do well in the Schools examinations and develop themselves to be able to meet up with the current competitive challenges in the employment market.
We understand that you head a committee set up to review the church’s constitution in a bid to correct some ills in the C&S fold. What level of progress have you made so far and what can you say about the prospect of this constitution review?
No. I am not the head of the Committee. Elder Owomoyela is the head. I am only a member. We were camped for about three (3) days to review some thorny areas of the Constitution. The work has reached an advanced stage and within the shortest possible time, we shall have a Constitution that will thoroughly address the yearnings of all Seraphs.
What makes you feel proud as a Seraph?
Answered prayers to all my problems and expectations in life.
What legacy do you wish to leave behind as a Seraph?
The legacy that I have within my modest capacity contributed to the growth of the Church as a Seraph and as its Chief Legal Officer at a point in time.
Where do you see C&S church in the next ten years?
A lot has been achieved in the last 10 years. The perception of the Church is fast changing positively among the people in the Country and beyond through many programmes that have been initiated by the Church and individuals members. There has been adequate publications an awareness. I think this is good.
With this tempo, it is my believe that in the next 10 years, more would have been achieved to make the Church a force to be reckoned with amongst the Committee of Churches to the glory of God.
