His Eminence Baba Aladura Alfred Oluwasegun Ogunnusi (LAHOJAH) has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over a controversial “tongue-to-tongue” ordination video that recently went viral.
In a new video circulated on social media, the clergyman called on members of the Cherubim and Seraphim church to forgive him.
He said, “I am sorry. Everyone who knows what I did was wrong. I apologise and seek forgiveness. After that, it is my job and it is the spirit that leads. To the church leaders across the fold, let us forget everything. I am sorry.”
Baba Ogunnusi had earlier defended his action while citing the scriptures to back it up.
In reaction, the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria slammed the cleric and officially distanced itself from the controversial event, describing the ordination as “vexatious and despicable before God and man.”
The church leadership, in a statement released on Monday, emphasised that none of the individuals featured in the video are affiliated with the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria.
The church also expressed deep disappointment over the unauthorised use of its founder’s name and religious symbols in the video.
The anointed bishop in the video was identified as a man known as Benjamin, also called Ajigbo, reportedly an Edo State-born self-proclaimed prophet operating a makeshift church in Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The ceremony was said to have taken place in the Ogijo area of Ogun State.
The church, however, reaffirmed its commitment to upholding strict biblical doctrines and distancing itself from any form of doctrinal deviation.
