Lent: I have no issue with those drumming, clapping – Baba Olori

The Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification church of Nigeria, His Most Eminence Prophet (Dr) Solomon Adegboyega Alao, has said that he has no reservation whatsoever with churches that clap and drum during Lenten season.

Significantly known as a season of repentance, Lenten period in the C&S church is such whereby solemn songs relax the common praise and worship songs throughout the 40 days it spans. It is worthy of note that some churches go as far as suspending the use of chairs which are often replaced with mats in a sheer expression of the sober reflection the period imposes.

That portrayed, some other churches, however, observe the fast only while their service routine subsist as they make use of drums, as such as their hands to clap; a development that has over time generated ripples, just as some quarters described it as being at variance with the laid down doctrines of the church.

But the supreme head who gave audience to journalists in his Surulere, Lagos residence on Sunday said he was not miffed by such practices.

According to him, what matters is the members of the fold taking cognizance of the Lenten season as a period of a change of heart and personal relationship with God.

While corroborating his submission by citing the book of Isaiah 58 on the type of fasting God reflects on, he said the need to be guided by the word of God is also very important.

He, therefore, pointed out that it is the choice of whosoever wishes to observe the period the way he or she wants.

He stressed that he would rather have issues with those who bear grudges against each other, including the ungodly ones.

The supreme head also bore his mind on other sundry issues pertaining to the church and the nation.
