The Supervising Pastor of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church (Worldwide) Pastors-in-Council, Special Apostle (Pastor) Fola Onafuye, says some practices in the C & S fold are obsolete and due for changes.
Elder Onafuye made this known while delivering a lecture at a seminar organised by C&S Unification Church of Nigeria, Lagos state chapter, which was held last Friday at C&S Mount Sinai.
Speaking on the theme of the event, “C&S Unification In Lagos State: Introspection, Ideals and Expectations,” he said if the late founder of the Church, St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase, was still alive, he would have effected the changes.
On why the late founder would have made such a move, he said, “The way we do things that time was appropriate for that time, but it no more appropriate for today. So, let us look at our practices without changing the main doctrines of our church. Doctrines are rooted in the Bible while practices are not rooted in the Bible. Practices are things we do that are good for us, that would be right for us to do and would help our administrations. If it is no more helping us, then we can change it. It is the only doctrine that is rooted in the Bible that cannot be changed. Most of the thing we do are not our doctrines, they are practices”
The cleric spoke further on the historical background of the church, as well as the sacrifices of the founding fathers. He also highlighted the challenges encountered while the church evolved over the years.
Going forward, Onafuye admonished all Seraphs to run the church with the understanding of the Bible and not extraneous practices. Among other suggestions, he urged the church to study existing doctrines and practices from the Bible.
The second speaker, Snr. Apostle Tayo Ajose made an appraisal of the state chapters under the national body of the Church. He also urged them to work within the purpose upon which they were created and ensure there is no unhealthy rivalry within the zonal chapters under them.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the state chapter, Snr. Supt. Apostle Dr. J.O Adagba, called on every member of the C&S church to be united and be part of one single Church where the word of God grows.
He also urged Seraphs to eschew any form of division and also uphold the virtues of the founding fathers.
The two-term chairman recalled how the church had hitherto pursued the cause of unity when the Church was first named Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide before the Nigerian government later suggested a change of name which brought about the existing name – C&S Unification Church of Nigeria.
Representing the Supreme Head, the Secretary-General of the church, Apostle Tunde Ogunkunle commended the chapter for sustaining the initiative. According to him, the chapter had set a standard following its activities over the years.
The well-attended event witnessed the presence of various Divisions across the state.
