Renowned global evangelist, Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi, has revealed reasons why she returned from the United Kingdom a few years back to settle down in Nigeria.
Speaking during a media chat with the executives of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Mother Ajayi said she had an unresolved issue with UK immigration.
The female cleric, whose stay in Nigeria had fuelled speculations, returned to London last month, just as she also received a rousing welcome from members of the Love of Christ Generation Church.
Although, she said her immediate family had gone to the UK as visitors, an issue one of her daughters had as a student made the immigration to revisit their papers.
She also recalled how former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, intervened to render assistance.
She said, “That year, Baba Obasanjo and Ooni of Ife came. In fact, Ooni of Ife said he had booked an appointment with the Bishop of Edinburgh and Prince Charles so that they can talk about my status. Baba Obasanjo also introduced me to Cherie Blair, the former prime minister’s wife. But I told him (Obasanjo) that the Lord said I should go back to Nigeria.”
According to her, the duo of Obasanjo and Ooni of Ife persuaded her to wait behind in other to resolve the issue. She however told them that God had given her a specific day to leave.
Speaking further on what finally led to her long stay in Nigeria, Mother Ajayi said this came after she was restricted access to enter the UK from France.
“Before I left in 2017, I had a passport and I went to France. And as I was going back to the UK – that was when I knew the immigration thing of my daughter that year. They took my fingerprint, and were still waiting for me. So I wanted to enter back and they say I couldn’t enter the UK, that was why I came to Nigeria.”
She said the instruction of her solicitor to resolve the pending issue with UK immigration made her stayed back in Nigeria. She also added that there was no way she could have been allowed in because UK won’t break their law for anybody.
