It is time to revisit the origin of C & S – Pst. Alo Olatokunboh

The Registrar of the Resurrection Bible College and Seminary International, Pastor Alo Olatokunboh Akin (JPil) has said there is a need to revisit and review the history of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church as it inches close to its centenary celebration.

The C & S church will by the year 2025 celebrate 100 years since it was founded.

In a document he authored and made available to Acts of Seraphs, the popular teacher of the scripture said the past and present of the church, if adequately examined without bias, will bring about the fire of revival in the future.

“There’s a need to do a very intense review of the origin of the Church without any bias in order to look at how it was in the beginning and chart a course for the present and project into the future.

“History is part of a lifetime, so, there’s a need to look into the past to bring out some of the things that were done right to pick them up and also things that were done wrong in order to avoid them. This will make the fire of revival in the church burn brighter in our midst in Jesus’ name,” he said.

The document which was titled, “Assessing the C&S church of yesterday and today for a better C&S church tomorrow”, quoted Pastor Alo as saying that the church, when founded, was witnessing for Christ, evangelising and praying according to the command Jesus Christ left before His ascension.

He explained that the name of the Church, Cherubim and Seraphim, came as a revelation from God which are the names of angels that are dedicated to worshipping God in heaven, and as such, members of the fold should worship the Father in the same vein, being enlightened and active in service to the human race.

“The church began as a place for all Christians who would like to worship God in spirit (John 4: 23 – 24) – the Seraphim are the model of worshippers which God has created for His own personal glory and He wanted man to follow their footsteps, but man fell short of the glory. That, members be educated as Cherubim & Seraphim above so that they would be able to sincerely seek the interest of the church in which Jesus Christ has planted Himself as a living organism – spiritual intelligence,” he stated.

On projecting into the future as Seraphs, Alo said there must be a balance between the gift and the word.

According to him, the Spirit gives the Gifts and it takes an understanding of the Word of God to effectively utilize the gifts, adding that it is good to note that gifts without character or biblical basis were not the practice at the beginning of the church.

The document read in part, “We should teach about financing the work of God instead of using titles to raise funds or ministers charging money for prayers – when we teach our members about the benefits of giving and sowing (Kingdom Financing) seed into the church, they will spend their money in the church not because the leadership is asking them to pay for titles.

“We should give value to Education in all aspects, not only in attending higher institutions, but even those that want to attend training schools to learn – we should also encourage attending Bible schools by our members, we should encourage members to study up to whatever level they want to get to in life.

“We should also embrace Technology, which is what is in vogue in the world and the church today – with technology, we can reach beyond our immediate environment. We should give the church a facelift in our approach of our services and events/programs, when we set up committees, we should let them think out of the box to do things in modern ways and up the standard of the church.

“We should also have a committee or department that will be scrutinizing the things that are posted by our members on the social media platforms, many people will just wake up and wear white to post absurd things on the internet for the whole world to see, it should be monitored.”
