Psalm 119 reciter, Seraph Tunmise Adeyemi, becomes a lawyer

Tunmise Adeyemi, a scholarship beneficiary of Reverend Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi who gained prominence after reciting Psalm 119 from memory in 2019, has been called to the Nigerian Bar after graduating with a first-class degree in Law from the University of Ibadan.

Adeyemi came into the limelight during the 94th Seraphim Day celebration of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church in 2019 when she flawlessly recited all 176 verses of Psalm 119 before a stunned congregation.

Impressed by the feat, Mother Ajayi immediately awarded her a scholarship, pledging to sponsor her education after verifying the recitation alongside her husband, Reverend Ademuyiwa Ajayi.

The scholarship, funded through the Esther Ajayi Foundation, supported Adeyemi throughout her university education, culminating in her graduation with first-class honours from the University of Ibadan before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School.

The new lawyer is the daughter of Senior Superintendent Apostle Muyiwa Adeyemi, former Public Relations Officer of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church, and Senior Mother in Israel Grace Omoye Adeyemi, founder of the Amazing Grace Children Rights Foundation.

Speaking on his daughter’s achievement, Muyiwa Adeyemi said Mother Ajayi had remained faithful to the scholarship promise she made in 2019.

He recalled that the clergywoman was unaware that Tunmise was his daughter when she announced the scholarship, adding that her support played a significant role in the young lawyer’s academic success.

“After the scholarship was announced, I encouraged her to remain focused because Mama had shown a special interest in her. I told her she had to justify the confidence reposed in her. Today, seeing her called to the Bar after graduating with a first-class degree from the University of Ibadan is to the glory of God,” he said.

Tunmise had earlier attributed her ability to memorise Psalm 119 to the encouragement she received from her mother, who challenged her at the age of 14 to learn the entire chapter ahead of her local church’s Children’s Anniversary in 2015.

She said what initially appeared impossible eventually became a life-changing accomplishment through persistence and regular practice.

Her outstanding recital in 2019 also earned her a cash reward of ₦100,000 from the church’s Legal Adviser, Superintendent Apostle General Wale Taiwo (SAN), while the emeritus Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church, His Most Eminence Prophet Dr Solomon Adegboyega Alao, pledged to mentor her.

Adeyemi’s call to the Bar marks the latest milestone in a journey that has inspired many within and beyond the Cherubim and Seraphim community, highlighting the rewards of faith, discipline and academic excellence.
