Eight Facts To Know About Late Baba Aladura Alogbo

The transition of the Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Prophet (Dr.) Emmanuel Abiodun Adewale Alogbo, at the age of 93 has drawn tributes from members of the church. Here are eight key facts about the late church leader.

1. He was born on Easter Sunday in 1933
Prophet (Dr.) Emmanuel Abiodun Adewale Alogbo was born on April 18, 1933 (Easter Sunday) at No. 16, Inabiri Street, Lagos.

2. He came from a musical family
His father, the late Dickson Adeleye Alogbo, was the choirmaster of Hoare Methodist Church, Yaba. The musical heritage he inherited helped shape his exceptional talent, which later became instrumental in his ministry.

3. He worked for the Nigerian Railway Corporation
Alogbo joined the Nigerian Railway Corporation in 1950, serving in the Electrical/Refrigeration Section of the Engineering Department before he was transferred to Zaria.

4. He joined the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church in 1959
While in Zaria, he walked into a Cherubim and Seraphim church after hearing the choir sing one of his compositions. He corrected the rendition, joined the choir, and began what would become a lifelong ministry in the church.

5. He expanded the C&S Movement beyond Nigeria
He played a leading role in establishing the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church in the United States, including Los Angeles, New York and Houston, Texas, as well as in the United Kingdom, strengthening the church’s international presence.

6. He received prestigious honours for church leadership
In November 2024, he was conferred with the Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award of the Nigerian Academy of Church History and Missiology (FNACM). He also held a Doctor of Divinity in Missiology (D.D.M.) from Kaduna College of Divinity.

7. He devoted more than six decades to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church
From joining the church in 1959 until his death, Baba Alogbo spent more than 65 years contributing to the spiritual growth, administration and missionary expansion of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church.

8. He became the fifth Supreme Head of the C&S Unification Church of Nigeria
Prophet Alogbo was formally installed as the Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria on September 20, 2025, becoming the fifth person to occupy the office. He succeeded Prophet Solomon Alao, assuming the leadership of the church’s unification body.
