…drums support for restructuring
The Supreme Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, His Most Eminence, Prophet Solomon Adegboyega Alao, has advised the governments at all level to reduce the cost of governance.
He noted that the ostentatious life style of political leaders has adverse effects on the physical development of the country.
Prophet Alao also appealed to the federal government to support the clamour for restructuring of the country to prevent the country moving towards the precipice.
He said, “The founding fathers of the county did not make mistakes by bequeathing on us true federal constitution that allowed each region to develop at its own pace”.
The clergyman spoke on Monday at a press conference to herald the annual General Conference of the Church taking place at the National Secretariat of The Sacred C & S Church of Nigeria, Orita Baahorun, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
He said: “On the current economy, I believe the nation would get over this, if only the cost of governance is reduced by means of sacrifices by our political leaders vis a vis a cut in the emoluments. As long as the cost of current governance is not reviewed downwards, the national recurrent expenditure would continue to abort any efforts on physical development. Our roads, education and healthcare delivery would continue to be on oxygen to survive unless we borrow with far reaching adverse consequences on the future of our children and their children’s children.”
The leader also added that the fight against corruption should be pursued with renewed determination, adding that the government should renew the war by perhaps, starting with those at the road blocks.
He noted that factors that breed corruption should be tackled from the root, stem and branch and the starting point should be with political office holders and uniformed men and women at road blocks and borders.
He, however, expressed displeasure at the interference of banks into the retail business of some group of Nigerians. He described such development which appears unnoticed by the government as a trend to suffocate a large numbers of self-employed Nigerians.
He said,”Why should banks sell recharge cards of GSM providers, thus killing road side sellers and taking away the little source of their livelihood? The central government should bar the banks from competing with this group of Nigerians”.
“Again should banks get involved in travel agency, thus sending into unemployment market our citizens engaged by those legally licensed operators known as IATA?” He further queried.
He therefore called on Nigerians not to cease to continually pray for the country and her leaders.
He said it would be a self-deciet if we conclude that all is well.
While beamoning the security situation in the country, he condemned perennial killing of Christians in the Northern part of the country and urged the President to tinker with the security architecture of the country to make it more effective.
The Conference with the theme:” Enlarge the place of thy tent” will commence on Thursday and round off with a Thanksgiving service on Sunday,
