The Cherubim and Seraphim Agbojesu Conference Worldwide has assured prospective worshippers that adequate security measures have been put in place for this year’s Agelu Convention despite growing concerns over insecurity across the country.
The Conference Secretary, Pastor Oluwaseunfunmi Shodunke, said the organisers had liaised with relevant security agencies, which assured them that adequate security arrangements had been put in place for participants throughout the convention.
Speaking with ACTS OF SERAPHS on Friday, Shodunke said there was no cause for alarm, while noting that the annual gathering would hold as scheduled.
He said, “By the grace of God, the convention will hold. Due to the security situation, we are also making efforts to ensure attendees are safe.
“We have contacted the authorities and security personnel, and they have assured us that there is no reason for fear. Everything will go on as planned.”
His assurance comes amid growing concerns over attacks and kidnappings in several parts of the country, which have prompted some religious bodies to suspend or review large-scale spiritual gatherings.
The four-day convention holds every July 24 to 27 at Agelu Mountain, via Ado-Awaye in Oyo State.
Shodunke, however, clarified that the Conference had no plans to postpone or cancel the spiritual gathering.
The cleric also advised participants travelling from distant locations and other areas facing security challenges to avoid travelling at night.
He said, “We do not worship man; we worship God. Let our minds be on God and God alone. If we go there with one purpose, which is to serve God, I can assure you that there will be no issues.
“My advice is that everybody should come with their faith and avoid any form of late-night travelling. If you are leaving your destination, leave as early as possible and arrive on time. Let everybody be on the convention ground early.”
Asked whether the convention could still be reviewed if the security situation deteriorated, Shodunke ruled out the possibility.
“By the grace of God, there is no going back. Everything will go well. We are confident that at the end of the convention, we will all testify to God’s protection and have a successful gathering,” he added.
The cleric also called on the Federal Government to strengthen the country’s security architecture and fulfil its responsibility of protecting lives and property.
He further urged Nigerians to complement the efforts of security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities.
“The government always promises the safety of lives and property. They should work towards fulfilling those promises and tightening up the security architecture of the country.
“We should all play our part. If you see something, say something. While we trust God for protection, we should also do whatever is necessary as citizens to protect one another,” he added.
